Story

Starting as a gamified crypto asset wallet that raised $3.2M in total funding, Klink Finance successfully pivoted into Klink Rewards. This decentralized B2B offerwall infrastructure has scaled to over 1 million global users, allowing participants to complete mobile tasks and earn fiat, crypto, and the native $KLINK token.

Before the migration into an Offer-wall Ecosystem

Starting out as a Crypto Wallet service, Klink Finance struggled to find product-market fit in the crypto industry that was about to form a 4-year cycle top. The initial app design conveyed the same message as multiple features were cluttered and force-fitted into the interface that was trying to understand the needs of its users - ones that were converted using the trending "token-airdrop" strategy back then.

  1. Building a Direction

Stabilizing the business by focusing on features that worked

Out of all the features that Klink experimented, the only feature that was generating revenue was the offer-wall that was attached inside the wallet. The idea was to let users know they can complete online tasks like testing apps or games to earn some payouts that will be sent directly to their Klink wallet.

As a result, to optimize revenue and business resources, decisions has been made to remove unnecessary features and focus on becoming a full-fledge offer-wall that can compete with top players in the field like FreeCash, SwagBucks or JustPlay.

  1. Research

Defining the needs of the next-level Offer-wall user experience

After conducting researches through user feedbacks, competitors' focuses, user interviews and heatmap data, we came to a list of crucial checkpoints of user experience that needed to be focused to improve overall usability of the app, and differentiate Klink Rewards from current players in the market.

UX Painpoints

  1. Design Language

Exploring a simple, consistent, on-brand and scalable design language for a small team

Design Workflow

Designed for Efficiency

Klink's old designs were a mix of inconsistent design elements, different design styles on mobile and desktop web, incomplete design system and a lack of multiple screen sizes responsive mechanics. This made it extremely difficult for developers to produce high-quality, polished user experience on the app platforms.

To solve these issues, I created a unified design system/language for both desktop and mobile apps, with a clear responsiveness guideline to ensure development outcome quality. The design system helped bringing a consistent UX to users, while trimmed down design/development workload by removing guesswork.

An improved

Development Experience

I collaborated closely with developers to ensure all variables and components were implemented with the exact naming as within our Figma file. This ensures sustainability in the long run. With variables, design system and responsive mechanics, a major part of front-end development was automated. From there, implementing new screens are as simple as calling out the right component name, with dark/light mode already set and good to go.

  1. Final Design

A complete offer-wall ecosystem, built to convey a professional and reliable brand

During the research phase, I recognized that offer-wall users tend to be skeptical about offers or platforms that they're using. Issues they encounter might be offer not tracking, platform takes forever to verify, or cash out delays or failures. For that reason, I decided Klink should go with a more reliable look and feel, similar to a proper finance app, other than keeping a gamy vibe of a general offer-wall app.

I worked closely with our product manager to monitor user behavior data collected on the app to make adjustments and decision on design updates. Over 1 year of development, we've pushed multiple updates and added extra features around the ecosystem like Earners' Leaderboard, Referral System, Daily Earning Streak & Onboarding Journeys.

Compared to the old version of the app, the new design produced meaningful results. Our recorded data of the new version showed that users are generally more willing to start offers, and they are more active within the app. The data proved that users' confident has risen, and the new design and strategies has successfully made the platform look and feel more reliable.

  1. Learnings

At the end of the day, a fully functional offer-wall ecosystem was a bit overly ambitious for a small team

During the time working at Klink, I realized that for a small team, and in the offer-wall niche, there are major technical constraints that are nearly impossible for a small group of developers to overcome. We usually had to make compromises on the design side for a feature to be feasible and pushed, as the priority was to ship fast to start improving revenue day by day to sustain the business. For a small team, we did our best to push Klink to it's finest position, and had certainly achieved some important milestones, improved overall user experience and quality of the platform.
